The artist studied Architecture at Glasgow School of Art, and he travelled abroad with fellow 2013 John Kinross Travel Scholarship winners Fraser Brownlee and Jonny Lyons, both from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. They stayed a couple of days with friends in Milan before spending a week in Venice, before travelling on to Florence where they stayed just over one month in a flat before returning home via Paris.
His interest has always been architecture and fine art within architecture, therefore the process of making architectural drawings.
His deposit reflects a particular interest in the Piazza della Santissima Annunziato, in the North Eastern part of Florence. Designed by Brunelleschi (b.1377, d.1446) in 1419 and with later additions by Sangalio (1516) and Caccini (1600). Regarded as being at the height of the Renaissance, built on principles of order, symmetry and harmony, it provided a significant contribution to the renaissance ideal of the rationally ordered and planned city. It proved inspirational not only for the development of other architectural features within Florence, but across Europe. The social element of the architecture was of particular interest and the deposited artworks reflect these interests through a precisely executed series of layered drawings. Delivered by the artist rolled and wrapped in a sheet of tissue paper secured by a round self-adhesive orange sticker and bearing its title FROM LORENZO on a strip of self-adhesive black embossed “Dymo” labelling plastic
