A Road through Trees

This is a Temple/Arniston Woods subject, and a favoured theme showing a lane receding into the distance flanked by winter trees. In the RSA Gillies Bequest there are numerous oil paintings and pencil sketches of equivalent subjects and from around the same date. With regard to technique, Temple Cottage Garden (David Muirhead Memorial Fund purchase, 1947) is similar.
