Artist: Reeves, Philip Thomas Langford, RSA PPRSW RGI RE · 1931-2017
The work is a multi-colour lithographic print depicting two nude women seated beside each other on a period settee, the woman at left with her back to the viewer and her legs pulled up onto the couch, the second woman, who has short black hair, sits full-on to right of centre of the image and engages the viewer directly. A corner angle of the room can be seen behind an unidentified large dark shape centrally behind the figures.
The print is one of a number of lithographic prints produced by Reeves whilst a student at the Royal College of Art in London (1951-54) before he moved to etching which became essentially his preferred printmaking medium fort he remainder of his career.
