Artist: Wilson, William, OBE RSA RSW · 1905-1972
Wilson first learnt etching whilst attending evening classes at Edinburgh College of Art, where he came under the tutelage of Adam Bruce Thomson OBE RSA (1885-1976). Recognising Thomson’s talent, Thomson encouraged him to apply to ECA as a full time student. The two remained friends throughout Wilson’s life.
The present work appears to be Wilson’s original sketch for his subsequent line engraving of this subject, for the original copper printing plate vide RSA 2018.001(verso) and for a later impression from this pulled by Leena Nammari vide RSA 2019.020.
