Puppets on a String
Artist: Fleming, Ian, RSA, Dr · 1906-1994Printer: McCoig, MalcolmPrinter: Cordiner, Stewart Buchan · b. 1949Printer: Peacock Printmakers
In the catalogue which accompanied Fleming’s solo exhibition at Peacock Printmakers in Aberdeen in 1983, with an introduction by Malcolm McCoig, Fleming makes reference to McCoig achieving with screenprinting textures that Fleming aspired to, and that he entrusted McCoig, a former member of Fleming’s staff at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, with printing a number of screenprints for him at Peacock. However, Colin R Greenslade, RSA Director, who formerly worked at Peacock in an e-mail to RSA Documentation Officer of 2020-01-20 stated; “Ian Fleming Puppets. I have a feeling that this print was made with Stewart Cordiner at Peacock Printmakers but was not, to my knowledge, published by Peacock. Ian used the studio and the technicians frequently over the years…. This will have been purchased from the artist or perhaps through Peacock or Aberdeen Artists Society.”
