Sim Scenario
Creator: Bruce, Alicia · b. 1979
Sim Scenario was shot on location at the Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, near Stirling, between October 2014 and February 2015. The Sim of the title is an abbreviated term for ‘simulation.’
The DVD features real medical students, teaching and support staff at the centre, and a robotic patient ‘Stan D Ardman,’ one of only 7 such robots in Scotland who can respond to anaesthetics and is used in the training of anaesthetists. A voice man provides realistic sound effects for ‘Stan.’ The voice man and the female course tutor sit behind a one-way window observing the scene live both in real time and on video screens which relay real time images from 2 cameras in the ‘ward.’ The voice man reacts to the action making appropriate sounds including vomiting, and there is a life telephone link by which the trainee doctors can communicate with course tutor, who may be called on to attend in person on the ‘ward.’
