Atmosphobia

Sculptor: Rand, Keith John, RSA · 1956-2013

The work comprises three pieces all of similar shape and construction but reducing in size one to the next. The piece was designed to be wall mounted and so each component does not have a back and the sculpted from exists only in the half round (like a pilaster as opposed to a pillar).

The outer surface is sanded smooth but the inner face is rough showing the marks of the adze and gouges used in its construction. Each of the three major components has been split into six staves which have then been reconstructed using copper wire to hold them together.

The larger components show signs of a woodworm infestation.

The work as here presented is a later reworking of the original Atmosphobia
