we meme Florence
These twenty-eight drawings were executed following the artist's return from Italy, but based on sketchbook notes made at the time.
Son was influenced by the religious renaissance paintings and statues which he used to question the unconscious control systems of Religions of the past and present, and contemporary equivalent controlling systems.
The current set presents variations on the specific theme of several well known Florentine statues including Michaelangelo's iconic marble statue of David.
Son has used this as a starting point for exploring the idea of memory and fantasy through the expression of concealed inclination, daydreams and fears. They include references to interpretations of boyhood and immatureness into fetishism which he has personally experienced and longed for. The creative practice is therapeutic in provoking taboos and the issue of voyeurism through the attitude of outsider-art.
