The Village School

Harvey's original oil painting is dated 1846 and is not the one of the same title in the collection of the National Gallery of Scotland, NG2090, which predates 1825. Harvey painted several works which took the village school as its subject. These included his above mentioned painting, his first exhibited work; and the Examination of the Village School and School's Skailin' both of the early 1840s and which were reproduced as engravings.
