The Deed of Corporation of the earliest recorded Drawing Academy to be established in Scotland, predating that established by the Foulis brothers in Glasgow in 1753, and predating the Royal Scottish Academy by ninety-seven years.
Chalmers is given as the author purely on the grounds that he is recorded on the document as 'Secretary', and as the son of a Writer to the Signet (WS - lawyer), might have been expected to have some degree of familiarity with such documents
