Wilson was a student in the RSA Life School every year from 1873-4 to 1878-9. In 1875 Wilson was awarded the Prize for Anatomical Drawing, and in 1877 he was awarded First Prize for Painting, and with P W Adam and Robert Kirkpatrick shared the Sttuart Prize, probably for the present work.
