Ecumenical Church at Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, Unbuilt Project

Architect: Webster, Robin, OBE RSA · b. 1939

In a letter dated 2008-04-07 to Collections Assistant (in Webster's file) the architect discusses the project depicted in the Diploma Work 'It was eventually proposed to be an ecumenical church, although it originally started out/ as a new Episcopalian church. The small congregation finally decided to simply merge/ into an exisiting building.....probably very sensibly. They did like the design, and so did/ the bishop, but there were never sufficient funds...The materials you have for the model are correct, although the model is not entirely/ balsa, there is some other wood there too...One idea was to have the interior entirely lit by candles, but that would/ probably have been ruled out on health and safety grounds, if not simple practicalities...' Webster stated in this letter that he was not keen on the CAD image of the interior and would be happy if it were 'lost' i.e. removed from model.
