The artist had been just a few days arrived in Florence when he received word that his mother had died suddenly and unexpectedly, forcing him to abandon his travels and return home. He subsequently completed his scholarship residency and the three works deposited by him are a very personal reflection on the circumstances surrounding his trips to Florence.
