Breton Peasant
Artist: Sutherland, David MacBeth, RSA · 1883-1973
This portrait is one of a number of portraits and studies that D.M. Sutherland made of traditional Breton figures between 1920 and 1924. An identically titled work was shown at the RSA in 1923 catalogue number 131, this was probably the same piece as the Diploma Work. "Breton Peasant" was also illustrated in black and white in "The Studio" in this same year, August 1923 on page 70 and appears to have been exhibited at the "Edinburgh Group" Exhibition in 1923.
