'as my election to Royal Scottish Academician coincided with a / particular canvas - 'Summer Lightning'- i thought that I could submit it as my Diploma Work/ as you see, the piece is colourful, warm and vibrant,/ as in the growth of summer flowers and herbiage./ My memories of thunderstorms and accompanying/ downpours stay with me since I was young, and in awe/ of Nature - being born and brought up in the countryside,/ Sutherland had it all - mountains, rivers and/ bagpipe, fiddle and accordion music...I hope this info can be of help to you in understanding/ what I was trying to express..' letter from Macpherson to Collections Assistant of 22nd May 2006, letter is in Macpherson's member's file.
