Hamish Paterson
Artist: Sivell, Robert, RSA · 1888-1958
An identically titled work "Hamish Paterson" was exhibited at the RSA in 1935 catalogue number 124 and was not for sale. This may have been the same piece as the Diploma Work. At the same exhibition Hamish Paterson exhibited a portrait of Sivell, catalogue number 331. There appeared the following critique in the Glasgow Herald in an article of 1935-04-26 entitled " Royal Scottish Academy, The 109th Annual Exhibition, Some First Impressions" "Among other works which attract attention/ are Mr Robert Sivell's portrait of Mr Hamish/ Paterson and Mr Paterson's portrait of Mr/ Sivell. Each artist choosing his own con/ vention, has produced a work of much vitality and racy characterisation." See Newspaper Cutting Book 1933-1936. Also both portraits reproduced by The Scotsman (?)
