Gordon's original oil painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy iAnnual Exhibition 1855, cat 224; "The Late Colonel Haldyard, for the Town Hall of Stokesley etc.", it was paid for by public subscription at a cost of £500.00 and hung in the court room of the Town Hall the erection of which the sitter had paid for from his own pocket in 1853. (vide Bulmer's History and Description of North Yorkshire, 1890, sourced 2015-08-10)
though the publisher is unnamed, it is possible, given that the artist was Sir John Watson Gordon, the engraver was Burton and the printers were McGlashan and Wilding that the publisher was Alexander Hill. Hill, and his brother David Octavius Hill, worked in close partnership with Alexander McGlashan, partner in McGlashan and Wilding.
