Red Roofs
Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973
The view has been identified as a view from an upstairs window of the Gillies' family home at 'West Lea,' Meadow Park, Haddington, looking north west to Rosehall and houses beyond.
Gillies also painted in the studio attic at nearby Brae Villa, the house owned and lived in by Robert Alexander Dakers, editor of 'The Haddington Courier' and himself an amateur artist who gave early encouragement to Gillies.
