Robin Jenkins (1912-2005), studio study
Artist: McRae, Jennifer, RSA · b. 1959
Preliminary study for portrait commissioned by James Holloway, then Director of Scottish National Portrait Gallery, now in collections of SNPG (PG 3189). Artist had just been joint winner of Morrison Scottish Portrait Award. James Holloway and the artist went to Dunoon to visit the home of Robin Jenkins. Had quite a stern and direct gaze, very interesting. This study was done in the artist’s Glasgow studio and is the second of two studies made for the final painting.
