Portrait of Alexander Nasmyth HRSA
Artist: Geddes, Andrew, ARA · 1783-1844
The painting was referenced by James Nasmyth [1808-90] in a letter to Alexander Fraser RSA; "My only remaining sister, Charlotte Nasmyth, the last of 6 sisters has a very good portrait 1/2 length by his friend Andrew Geddes, It is a likeness but does not convey his general expression of good natural intelligence. My father was above the average height, rather spare active figure as he was an active man both in mind and body - light florid complexion. Black hair when young that turned to iron grey and finally white, but to the last he had a clear healthy florid complexion."
