The Scout

In 1930 John Massey Rhind exhibited a similarly themed piece at the RSA "Indian Scout - sketch for heroic statue" catalogue number 48 and at the RGI in 1932 "Indian Scout - Sketch for Heroic Statue" catalogue number 52. The Diploma Work doubtless was inspired by John Massey Rhind's residency in the United States from 1896 to 1929 and was created in 1919 when he was resident there.
The heroic sculpture was cast and is in the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44502 Accession Number: 921-S-101.
