Allegory
Artist: Bryce, Gordon, RSA · b. 1943
Painted especially as Bryce's Diploma Work, this painting had no exhibition history prior to entering the RSA collection. Bryce has explained that it was painted in and depicts his studio and the objects are ones that he had lying around for almost twenty years and that had featured in his still life paintings. The title 'Allegory' reflects the fact that he is telling a story about his painting and still life work.( telephone conversation with collections assistant 16/11/2007 - transcript in Bryce's file)
