The page has been removed froma sketchbook. From c.1854 Hill was exhibiting a number of landscape views painted in Fife. In 1856 (cat 441) and 1857 (cat 162) he exhibited St Andrews from the Maiden Rock for which this is unlikely to be a sketch, the Maiden Rock standing much further to the South-East of the town.
