Tantallon Castle
Artist: Grose, Francis · 1731-1791
The two curtain walls are inscribd respectively “too short 1/8” and “too long 1/8” which suggests that grose was using some specific measuring device as a trained military draughtsman would do in taking topographical delineations at this period.
This appears to be the original drawing reproduced as a plate facing page 83 in Volume 1 of Grose’s the Antiquities of Scotland (2nd ed,1797), titled as Tantalllon Castle Pl.II.
