August Tan [August, Peacock Printmakers Calendar, 1976]
Publisher: Peacock PrintmakersPrintmaker, editioning: Bain, Robert [Bob] · 1949-1989
Invited by the board of Peacock Printmakers in Aberdeen to produce the image for February in the Peacock Calendar Suite, 1976.
The artists selected to collaborate were a mixture of established and emerging printmakers and painters with little or no previous printmaking experience. For the established printmakers the hope was that they would experiment with a medium outwith that which they normally adopted.
Bain was a year below Arthur Watson at Gray’s but was an older student. Branded a modern romantic, his work to this point was exclusively linocuts. He was one of the artist’s featured in the Calendar Suite who worked at Peacock. Bain died tragically young, but his legacy has been preserved in a body of work, comprising an impression of virtually each of his printmaking work, gifted to Aberdeen Art Gallery.
Arthur Watson believes Bob Bain editioned his own print for the suite. See notes provided by Arthur Watson on 30 Oct 2025 in record images.
