Explaining the present work, the artist has written;
"The John Kinross scholarship allowed me the time to reflect upon my perception and sensory experience in relation to my practice. I delved into the depth of rich cultural, human and ancient histories; craft, civilization, and material artefacts of the past.
This exploration into temporal history was deepened through my close-focused multimedia practice. Through active site-based making, and methods of walking and exploration, I reflected more deeply about my (sub)conscious mind, being present and having a mindful approach to spending time in different environments.
Developing my photographic practice, I have been considering the camera as a ‘material tool’ and as a ‘bodily’ extension of my sight and embodied experience, through photographic mediation. Physically moving ‘up close’, I become intimate to the fabric of material surfaces I focus on in different spaces. With an autoethnographic focus I considered, what excites me sensorily, and draws me in to make a photograph?
I explored traces of human presence through observing spaces. Fragments of touch are evidenced in the ‘found sculptures’ I document. What agency and past life do these objects hold through human interaction?
Materiality is central to my research, using haptic methods and photography to illuminate surfaces embedded with temporal history."
