Plaster bas relief of a crossed palm frond and laurel branch by F N Bose ARSA
Bose himself may have been responsible for the photography however he is known to have had his own portrait taken by the Edinburgh-based commercial photographer Drummond Young whilst another Edinburgh photographer Francis Caird Inglis recorded other of Bose's sculptural works and he may have engaged either of them to record this piece.
Bose's surviving sketches include several which feature branches of oak, laurel and palm fronds which he sketched from decorative schemes whilst visiting Paris in 1911 and Rome in 1912.
Moreover, two of Bose's three extant First World War Memorials (Plaque for the Employees of William Younger and Co Ltd, and War Memorial Shrine, St John's Kirk of Perth) both include similar motifs, and the piece may be intended for a funerary monument or other Memorial.
