Plaster bas relief of a bearded and bespectacled man wearing ecclesiastical or legal robes by F N Bose ARSA
Bose himself may have been responsible for the photography however he is known to have had his own portrait taken by the Edinburgh-based commercial photographer Drummond Young whilst another Edinburgh photographer Francis Caird Inglis recorded other of Bose's sculptural works and he may have engaged either of them to record this piece.
The piece depicts an unidentified but distinguished bearded and bespectacled gentleman of a friendly disposition wearing robes which may indicate his profession to lie within the church or the law.
Bose's father Taranath Bose was a Magistrate and it may be a portrait of him however there is no physical likeness that suggests the sitter is related to the sculptor.
Alternatively it may be a portrait of a church minister, and the arched top to its surround suggests it was possibly intended for a funerary monument or other Memorial.
