sketch of an unidentified classical statue of a man in robes holding a theatrical mask in his right hand
Artist: Bose, Fanindra Nath, ARSA · 1888-1926
Bose was in Paris in the summer of 1911 and executed a number of sketches of sculptures both ancient and more recent.
Many of the former were sketches made in the Musee de la Sculpture Comparee at the Trocadero in Paris, or possibly in the grounds of the Palace of Versailles nearby.
The present sketch is for an unidentified carving of a full length figure of a man, his face badly weathered, standing in robes, holding a large theatrical mask of a bearded man in their right arm which hangs by his side, his left arm bent and broken off at the hand, wearing armour to his lower legs and stood on a pedestal.
