Artist: Bose, Fanindra Nath, ARSA · 1888-1926

Bose was in Paris in the summer of 1911 and executed a number of sketches of sculptures both ancient and more recent.

Dalou executed several versions of this roundel, one of which was exhibited in Paris in 1891 and purchased by the Ville de Paris.

The present study is probably taken from the copy of the roundel which is to be found on the face of the Fountain of Bacchus in the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil, Paris.

Dalou studied under Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux whose work also attracted Bose during his time in Paris.
