sketch of La Fontaine des Quatres Parties du Monde
Artist: Bose, Fanindra Nath, ARSA · 1888-1926
Bose was in Paris in the summer of 1911 and executed a number of sketches of sculptures both ancient and more recent.
Many of the former were sketches made in the Musee de la Sculpture Comparee at the Trocadero in Paris, or in the grounds of the Palace of Versailles nearby.
The present study is one of a number focussing on different parts of the Fountain designed by the French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux and which was erected in the Luxembourg gardens in Paris between 1867 and 1874.
