Printmaker: Furneaux, Paul, RSA · b. 1962
The distinctive viewpoint and back-court subject matter pays hommage to the printed work of the artist's father James Furneaux. Furneaux senior was an art teacher in Aberdeen who was involved with Peacock Printmakers there from its foundation until his death. Many of his screenprints featured hidden parts of Aberdeen including backcourts.
Paul Furneaux was in the middle of his Drawing and Painting studies at Edinburgh College of Art (1982-87) a the time he made this print.
He would go on to become a full-time printmaker specialising in woodblock and latterly Mokuhanga prints.
