John Maclauchlan Milne at work in his studio
Following his return from a stay in Paris Milne held a solo exhibition of 20 new paintings in his studio in the Nethergate, Dundee from 5 to 15 May 1922.
They were described in a review in the Dundee Courier newspaper of 1922-05-05 as "futurist" for their radical use of non-representational colour.
The review on p.4 was accompanied by a b&w photograph [see 2024.0017.1] on p.3 of a be-smocked Milne standing with palette and brushes in hand beside a framed painting "L'Eglise de Lavardin" on an easel.
The present image was clearly shot at the same sitting.
