Untitled [January, Peacock Printmakers Calendar, 1976]
Artist: Reeves, Philip Thomas Langford, RSA PPRSW RGI RE · 1931-2017Publisher: Peacock Printmakers
Invited by the board of Peacock Printmakers in Aberdeen to produce the image for January in the Peacock Calendar Suite, 1976.
The artists selected to collaborate were a mixture of established and emerging printmakers and painters with little or no previous printmaking experience. For the established printmakers the hope was that they would experiment with a medium outwith that which they normally adopted.
Reeves had studied printmaking at college and was instrumental in the establishment of the first printmakers' Workshop in Scotland, founded in Edinburgh in 1967. Appointed head of printmaking at Glasgow School of Art in 1970 he played a similar role in the creation of the Glasgow Print Studio in 1972. Peacock was the next Printmakers' Workshop to be established in Scotland after Glasgow.
Reeves simply cut down an existing plate which he had already used for an editioned print.
