Untitled, stiff grey card covers and maroon cloth spine sketchbook containing 66 leaves inscribed Gareth Fisher Edinburgh College of Art
Artist: Fisher, Gareth, PRSA RSA · b. 1951
The manufacturer of the sketchbook is unidentified but an inscription on the front board indicates that it was used by the artist during his student days at Edinburgh College of Art (1969-76).
The squared graph paper pages printed in blue ink carry original sketches and copious notes and quotations, with other sketches, cut outs, and one colour postcard of Crichton Castle, Scotland, pasted in or taped in, with both recto and verso faces mostly covered.
Seven of the leaves are detached and there is evidence of other pages having been removed prior to its entering the RSA Collections and which are no longer present.
Amongst the inspirational sources featured are railway trains, vintage cars, and the work of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian (1872-1944).
