Artist: Gillies, William George, Sir, CBE RA RSA PPRSW · 1898-1973
The artist moved from his native Haddington with his widowed mother and his two unmarried sisters to 162 Willowbrae Road, Edinburgh in the summer of 1929. They remained there until 1939 when the surviving members moved to Temple village.
This is one of three oils by Gillies in the RSA collections which feature Willowbrae Road, whilst his large and complex painting "Interior" of 1937 features the interior of the house.
