Standing Bearded Male Nude
Artist: Hartrick, Archibald Standish, OBE RSW · 1864-1950
The work entered the RSA Collections as Artist Unknown but he signature on the verso confirmed the authorship to Harttrick.
Hartrick does not appear to have ever been a student at the RSA Life School. He was educated at Fettes College and Edinburgh University before studying under Alfons Legros at The Slade in London (1884-85) and in Paris under Boulanger and Cormon (1886-7) under whose tutelage the present work appears to have been executed. In the summer of 1886 Hartrick stayed at Pont Aven in Brittany where he met Paul Gauguin. He exhibited at the RSA sporadically between 1888 and 1926.
