unclear whether the present work was executed en plein air or completed in the artist's Glasgow studio from sketches.
The Roman Catholic church of Secrétaria Paroissial stands at the southern end of Place Rouget de l'Isle and actually faces onto the road, the waterway which Miller gives as the foregoround to his sketch actually runs along the southern side of the church at the Quai Marceau and is therefore an example of artistic license.
