Ballotting for the Militia
Artist: Lizars, William Home, ARSA(Eng res.) HRSA · 1788-1859
In its obituary notice for Lizars, the London Evening Standard of 1859-04-12 references Lizars acknowldedged prowess as an engraver but states he was an extremely competent painter too but only three paintings known; his The Scottish Wedding and Reading the Will, also "'Balloting the Militia,' begun but unfinished...some of the groups in it are said to possess great excellence and lead us to suspect that by his change of profession we lost a great artist."
