Butler, Vincent, RSA
1933 – 2017
Vincent Butler studied at the Manchester School of Art and then at Edinburgh College of Art and the Academy of Fine Art in Milan. He spent some time living in Italy and also in West Africa where he taught at the University of North Nigeria returning to live in Edinburgh in 1963. His work concentrates almost exclusively on the human form. In addition to his work as a sculptor he also taught at Edinburgh College of Art and he has written the book "Casting for Sculptors" (1997). He has exhibited at the RSA since 1964. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1972 and an Academician in 1977.
