Schilsky, Eric Clare Telford, RSA
1898 – 1974
Eric Schilsky was the son of the violinist Charles Schilsky. He was educated in London and at the College des Beaux Arts in Geneva. From 1914 to 1917 he studied sculpture at the Slade under Harvard Thomas. After war service and the completion of his studies he joined the teaching staff at the Westminster School of Art in 1932 and during his period in London he became a friend of Sickert. In 1945 he became the Head of the School of Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art retiring in 1969. He specialised in portrait and figure pieces. His second wife was the artist Victorine Foot. Eric Schilsky exhibited at the RSA from 1946 until 1974. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1952 and an Academician in 1956, in 1968 he became a Royal Academician.
