Lemon, Henry

1822 – 1902

Born at Spital Square in London, the son of Lionel Lemon an African merchant, he was articled to Messrs Findon, Engravers. Active c.1855-86 including work for the Glasgow and London Art Unions. In 1858 he married Harriet, daughter of James Graham Lewis and sister of Sir George Lewis. The BM holds a selection of 24 of his works including pieces after Sir William Allan PPRSA and Thomas Faed RSA but not an impression of his Politicians after A H Burr. He exhibited at the RA between 1855 and 1866 from London addresses. His "Self Portrait" is in the Victoria & Albert Museum. His Obituaries in The Globe (1902-12-05) and The Birmingham Daily Post (1902-12-06) list many of his principal works including; Hannah’s picture of "Harvey demonstrating -the circulation of the blood to King Charles," Punch and Judy," and "Football,” after Webster. A portrait of Peabody, the philanthropist, and Delaroche’s "Head of Christ.”
