Hay, Peter Alexander Miller

Hay was a student at Edinburgh School of Art under Charles D Hodder c.1880-83, vide RSA 1998.037 for a class photo which included him.
Thereafter he was a student in the RSA Life School every year from 1884-5 to 1887-8 inc. and where he took the Stuart Prize in session 1885-1886 and the Prize for the Second best Drawing from the Life in 1887 [possibly for the present work]. The Visitors to the RSA Life School during his time were; J M Barclay; Robert Gibb; W E Lockhart and Otto Leyde (1884-5); J M Barclay; [Robert Gibb]; W E Lockhart and Otto Leyde (1885-6); J M Barclay; Robert Gibb; W E Lockhart and Otto Leyde (1886-7) and Robert Gibb; W E Lockhart; Otto Leyde and W D McKay (1887-8).
Exhibited at the RSA AX in 1886, 1888-1892 inc. from addresses in Edinburgh, then in 1894, 1896, 1898, 1901, 1903, 1905-11 inc,, and 1945 from London addresses
