Cameron, Hugh Armstrong
1881 – 1961
At the 1901 Census Hugh Armstrong Cameron was recorded as a 20 year old Art Student born in England, living with his father Hugh Cameron RSA (aged 65), mother Jessie Thomson Cameron (born Glasgow, aged 54 - who exhibited a single painting at RSA AX in 1888) and elder sister Isabel Armstrong Cameron, aged 21 and also an art student (she exhibited a portrait bust sculpture at the RSA AX in 1908) who was born in Helensburgh, at Elphinstone, Largo, Fife. The household was completed by a Cook and a Housemaid. H A Cameron exhibited at the RSA AX in 1901, 1907-12 inc., and 1920 from Edinburgh addresses, apart from 1901 when living at Largo. He was a student at the RSA Life School between 1904 and 1908. Whilst there, he won The Chalmers Bursary in 1907, and The Carnegie Scholarship and the Chalmers-Jervise Prize for the best Drawing from the Life both in 1908.
