Snowden, Michael Alan, RSA

b. 1930

Michael Snowden studied sculpture under Karel Vogel at Camberwell School of Art in London in 1953. Whilst at Camberwell he taught modelling, sculpture and anatomy part time and continued to teach until 1962. He was appointed lecturer in the school of sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art in 1964 (retired 1995) and he set up a bronze foundry and bronze casting course. He is best known for his figure pieces and has also produced a number of large scale public commissions such as "The Children of Glasgow" that is situated at the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery and "Mother and Child" in the Central Car park Way, Cumbernauld New Town. He has exhibited at the RSA since 1966, he became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1974 and an Academician in 1985.
