Morris, James Shepherd, RSA

1931 – 2006

The son of an architect at the Scottish Office, Thomas Shepherd Morris, James Morris studied architecture at Edinburgh College of Art and won the Carnegie Travelling Scholarship which enabled him to visit Europe in 1953. In 1955 he was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship and attended the University of Pennsylvania studying Landscape architecture. In 1955 he founded the architectural practice "Morris and Steedman" with Robert Steedman, RSA specialising in private house design. He also designed public buildings and notably the Edinburgh University Student Centre complex. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1975 and an Academician in 1989. His son Houston Morris is also an architect.
