Peploe, Samuel John, RSA
1871 – 1935
The son of a banker, Peploe attended Edinburgh University and began to study Law before training as an artist attending the Trustees Academy and the RSA Life School between 1892 and 1896. Studied in Paris at the Academie Julian and visited Barbizon, Paris-Plage and Etaples. Eventually settled in Scotland in 1912 but continued to go on painting trips with fellow artist J.D. Fergusson. Began to exhibit at the RSA Annual Exhibitions in 1896 and continued to exhibit until 1933. Became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1918 and became an Academician in 1927. His son was the artist Denis Peploe, RSA (1914 -1993)
