Keppie, John, RSA

1862 – 1945

John Keppie was educated at Ayr Academy and studied architecture in Paris at the Atelier Pascal. He worked initially as an assistant in the office of Campbell, Douglas & Sellars. In From 1889 to 1901 and 1914 to 1917 he was in partnership with John Honeyman, RSA as "Honeyman & Keppie" and from 1901 to 1913 with Charles Rennie Mackintosh as "Honeyman, Keppie & Mackintosh". From 1917 he was in partnership with Andrew Graham Henderson, RSA as "John Keppie & Henderson."He worked on the restoration of churches with Honeyman and was responsible for the design of many public buildings in Glasgow such as the School of Art. He exhibited at the RSA from 1910 until 1941 and also as "Keppie & Henderson" from 1921 to 1934. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1920 and an Academician in 1937. In addition to his work as an architect he also produced paintings and etchings.
