Crawford, Edmund Thornton, RSA

1806 – 1885

Initially apprenticed to a house painter before entering the Trustees Academy alongside D.O.Hill and R.S. Lauder. Much influenced by William Simson. He also travelled in Holland and produced Dutch landscapes and marine pieces. First began to exhibit at the Royal Institution before exhibiting at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1831 until 1880. He was initially elected as an Associate Member of the RSA in 1826 and became an Academician in 1829 but he resigned in 1832 and was re-elected as an Associate in 1839 and became an Academician again in 1848.
