Peddie, John Dick, RSA

1824 – 1891

John Dick Peddie was the son of James Peddie WS and his wife Margaret Coventry Dick or Peddie, and initially studied law himself at Edinburgh before changing to architecture. He formed the partnership of Peddie & Kinnear in 1856 with Charles George Hood Kinnear (1830-1894), which was known from 1878 as Kinnear & Peddie. Later in life his son John More Dick Peddie joined the partnership. John Dick Peddie was involved in the design of many public buildings in Edinburgh and Scotland as a whole. In addition to his work as an architect he also became a Member of Parliament in later life. He exhibited at the RSA from 1854 to 1890, he became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1868 and an Academician in 1870. He was predeceased by his wife Euphemia Lockhart More.
